2010 Cave Les Costieres de Pomerols Coteaux du Languedoc Picpoul-de-Pinet
When I bought this wine, I assumed it was a white blend, as I was unfamiliar with this AOC (Appellation d’origine contrôlée)
(or most AOCs, for that matter). I later found out that this wine is made from Picpoul Blanc grapes, which is a grape variety I was unfamiliar with. Basically, all I knew about this wine was that it was a French white wine.
This wine was produced in the Couteaux du Languedoc appellation. The designation “Picpoul de Pinet” indicates that it is made exclusively from Picpoul Blanc grapes.
I get citrus (lemon) and mineral on the nose, with lemon and pear on the palate. It has a smooth finish, and it is well balanced. It goes very well with a cream sauce.
My rating: Very good.
2008 Société Cooperative Castelmaure Corbières Col des Vents
This wine is also from the Languedoc region in France. Specifically, it is from the Corbières appellation. This is a red blend, made from 50% Carignan, 35% Grenache, and 15% Syrah.
There are light fruits (berries brambles, black currant) and spices (including black pepper) on the palate. It’s well balanced.
My rating: Very good.

Just letting you know that I quoted you on the Castelmaure Corbieres Col des Vents last week on my blog. I found it rather bitter, actually, so my review was not so positive!
