A Tale of Two Malbecs

Bottle Shot

One thing that I learned from the recent Beaujolais tasting is that tasting several similar wines at the same time can be fun, and it can help me appreciate the differences that exist between wines that may appear to be very similar at first. Since Malbec went well with the beef tacos last time, I …

Rosenblum Zinfandel – A wine for fruit lovers

Wine Label

If you don’t like lots and lots of fruit in your wine, this isn’t your wine. Seriously. If you love fruit, like I do, then this definitely is your wine. I’m talking about the Rosenblum Zinfandel Vintner’s Cuvée XXXIII. This is a blend of Zinfandel (88%) and Petite Sirah (12%) from various vintages and various …

A Fruity Cabernet from Bin 36

Wine Label

I recently picked up this wine at Dolce Vita Wine Shop in Chaska, Minnesota because it was their “nickel sale” wine. Since Cabernet Sauvignon is one of my favorite varietals, it seemed like a fairly safe choice, even though I knew nothing about the producer. I’ve also learned that just about any wine this shop …

A dinosaur from New Zealand

Wine Label

Like the other “dinosaur wine,” this wine is from Terra Fossil. This wine, a Sauvignon Blanc, comes from the Marlborough region of New Zealand. Marlborough produces some very good Sauvignon Blanc wines. In keeping with the dinosaur theme, this wine has the skeleton of a Pterodactyl  on the label. There are some very good Sauvignon …

2010 Robert Mondavi Private Selection Pinot Grigio

Bottle shot

This Pinot Grigio is from the Robert Mondavi Private Selection line of wines. I’ve had some Pinot Grigio before, and, while I’ve liked some, I’m starting to think that I’m just not that fond of this particular grape. I get some gooseberry and citrus on the nose, but I’m not getting much in the way of fruit …

A Chilean Rosé

I’m not sure why, but I’ve had very little experience with rosé wines. Since I really like Chilean wine, especially Cabernet Sauvignon, I had to try this rosé from Viña la Posada. This wine is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the Colchagua Valley in Chile. The English version of their website wasn’t working …

2007 Boedecker Cellars Athena Pinot Noir

I recently received some credits from Lot18 for participating in their Twitter contests and promotions. I decided to spend the credits on this Boedecker Cellars Athena Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley in Oregon. This is the 2007 vintage. Boedecker Cellars is currently selling the 2008 vintage on their website. I poured this into a decanter, …
